
Dan Taylor began Martial Arts training in 1965. He has trained in Jujutsu, Judo, Wrestling, Karatedo, and Kobudo. He is a former member of the U.S. Army Wrestling Team in Europe, and a U.S. National Karate Team in Japan. He is a retired Law Enforcement Officer and was the Chief Weaponless Defense Instructor for a large regional police academy. He is a graduate of California State University Fresno with a degree in Business Law. He opened a dojo in Visalia, California in 1975. In 2023, he retired from all instruction but remains a U.S.A. Coordinator for the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (DNBK) and Administrator of its Heisei Seidoh Kan Division.
He learned Gojuryu Karatedo, Kenshinryu Kobudo, and Nihon Jujutsu from Kenneth Rosson, 10th Dan, Hanshi. He has also trained with the following instructors in the U.S. and Japan: Teruo Hayashi, Yasuhiro Konishi, Tesshin Hamada, Motoo Yamakura, Rudy Crosswell, Shuji Tasaki, Morio Higaonna, Fumio Demura, Kiyoshi Yamazaki, Leo Lipinski, Sam Imoto.

Karatedo: Hachidan (8th Degree Black-Belt), Hanshi

His ranks and titles were awarded in Japan by the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (DNBK). Established in 1895, the DNBK is the oldest and most prestigious martial arts organization in Japan.
